THE HORSES

All horses are living with me for many years, most of them were actually born here. They like people and are very calm. Nowadays...
When I bought two-years-old Respire in 1999, he was a rather wild young stallion, knowing neither people nor horsefood and only thinking about how to escape the sooner the better. If I would get too close to him, he would try to bite and beat me. Today, ten years later, he is the friendliest animal you could ever imagine and I get kids to ride on him - because of his special kindness.
Nadeanda was a gift I got when she was two month old, Vagalume is her eldest son and Alegria is her daughter. The horses live as a little herd on a large meadow in the middle of the village and do like the horseriding and most of all the stop at the river as much as their riders.

NADEANDA

... is the boss. She accelerates in less than a second, is able to read your thoughts and would never ever accept other mares besides her - or a frightened rider on her back. Sometimes, she is in a bad mood. But her velocity is incredible. And if she likes someone, she can become real tender.

RESPIRE

He is so kind, that he slows down by himself when carrying young kids or less experienced riders. But he prooves beeing still a real Macho and stallion by neighing passionately when spotting nice mares. Even that kind of mare does not ruffle him at all.

ALEGRIA

Four-years-old Alegria is still young - but already mother of two foals. Her innocent glance may mislead: and that's exactly how the young lady manages to carry on secretly with the stallions. Alegria is supposably the most caressing horse and she is very popular with the kids.

VAGALUME

Nadeandas eldest son has very smooth paces and a very kind character - but he is a stallion and considered by Respire as an enemy. Some years ago, Respire has bitten off a piece of Vagalumes left ear... Since then, Vagalume lives in a short distance to the other horses, having nevertheless sometimes female visitors.

ITINERARYS

All horse trips start in the village of Suape. They cross the area of a former sugar can plantation, whose mostly sandy ways are very suitable for extended canter. We pass maniok plantations and small agricultors houses until we finally reach the river banks of the rio Massangana. The clear stream is just right for a relaxing bath: riders and horses will appreciate the refreshment. Under the cashew trees in the restaurant of Eloi, we might rest in hammocks, order fresh coconut water, fuit juices or even a grilled fish. After an abundant break, we prepare the horses for our trip back to the village. We follow either a shorter path with less experienced riders or a longer one with more experienced guests who would like to canter a little bit more.
All trips last aproximately three hours, drinks and dishes are not included.

We offer as well whole-day-trips for experienced riders. They start in the village of Suape, cross the shugar can plantation and go on through the rain forest reaching finally the deserted beach of Paiva, where we break into a gallop before we stay for a long rest. The horses will pasture under the coconut trees while we might appreciate the beautiful waves and have a swim side by side with the local surfers - or just stay in one of the beach bars. In the afternoon, when the sun is getting weaker, we ride back - mostly on the beach at low tide, or crossing residential aereas of Enseada and Gaibu at high tide.

More itinerarys are available on request, for example leading to the historical village of Nazaré or to the beautiful bay of Calhetas.

CONDITIONS

All wrong! Kids can get a ride on their own horse from 12 years on. Younger kids would ride on the same horse with her dad, her mom or with me.

Fairly athletic people with a good sense of balance use to get along very easily with my horses - even having only marginal horseriding-experience.

It is highly recommanded for all trips to use long trousers and suitable shoes in order not to hurt yourself in contact with the saddle. Sunscreen, a sun shade and swimwear will be useful during the rest at the river!

PS. As my horses are rather small, they would carry up to almost 160 pounds.

LESSONS

Riding lessons are available for beginners: only a few lessons are needed to get along with my horses which are used to be treated with care, tenderness and mutual trust.

Guests who are spending their holiday in Gaibu or Suape might like to book a One-Week-Class with five individual lessons given during one-hour-trips to the surroundings of Suape. This class will make you able to practise basic horsemanship.
